Idea part II

All right, I didn't get anyone writing to me to say my previous idea was terrible and I did manage to drum up a little bit of interest so I'm going to go for it. I've never created an online 'zine before but I think the visual free association game is a unique enough idea for me to consider breaking that unspoken rule so here we go.

This is what I'm going to do:

-- design and host a website for the zine
-- post it here for critique and review
-- write up some submission guidelines and come up with a few generalized criteria for the site
-- promote the hell out of it and this community
-- try to drum up interest both on livejournal and outside of it

This is what I really need help with:

-- promotion. If you guys think this is a good idea, please mention it in your journals and to the creative people you know [after the site is built].
-- a feature to start the site off with. I don't want this to be all me so I want to feature someone else's work as the first part of the game.
-- creative help: anyone with a cool idea please feel absolutely free to comment here.
-- help coming up with some good guidelines and criteria. I've got the basic idea -- the visual free association game -- but how should I define it from there? What do you all think of the "mission statement" of this community? Can it be modified in any way to make for a more interactive and enjoyable experience? What can I do to get more people to submit things? What should I do as far as judging what gets on the site and what doesn't? Should I leave it up to myself, put it up for vote, what would you guys like to see?
-- what -else- should I include in the 'zine? The visual free association will obviously take center stage but I'd like to include some other sections. What would you guys be interested in seeing?

That's all I can think of off the top of my head but feel free to offer any ideas you might have. Like I said before, I don't want this to be all me. I'm perfectly willing to maintain the site and community but I don't want to be a dictator. Let me know what you'd like to see and what would interest you.

interesting, let me know if there is something that i can help you with.
I'm gonna need an alter ego for this one, I think. One who wears a fedora, smokes Lucky Strikes and enjoys a good, mid-morning martini once in a while.

I'll come up with a name for him later. Or maybe no name at all.

I'll need a new icon too. Sigh.

So then, without further ado.

The dame needed help, like most dames in her condition and situation needed. So I said I'd help. I don't know why, I just did. I often find myself asking that question. It's usually shortly after the bullets start flyin' my way. But it was 10am, I was on my second martini and the cafe was pretty much empty.

Good. I like'em that way.

So she asked what I could do to help. I said I could get the word out. She what else?

I got ta thinkin'. Idly swiriling the martini, eyein' the olive. Don't care much for olives...

And I said to her, you're gonna get a lotta visual types. Lots of lookers and a couple of dreamers. Lots of eye-candy, see?

The tricks' gonna be balancin' it out. Eye candy's all good, but when the cards hit the table, and believe me, they do, you're gonna need somethin' under there, to back it all up. Ya gonna need some muscle. Somethin' to hit'em right where it counts.

Shouldn't be all that hard, I say to her, and then she looks at me with those eyes. And she wants to know, am I in?

And I say yeah, what the hell else am I gonna do?
Excellent... exxceeeelllent...
